78-Year-Old Fresno Man Killed in Head-On Collision on Millerton Road
A tragic accident occurred on Millerton Road in Fresno on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 78-year-old man. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as John Tarter. The incident took place at around 2:30 p.m. near Marina Driver when Tarter, who was driving east in a 2018 white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck, was involved in a head-on collision.
Eyewitnesses interviewed by the California Highway Patrol provided details of the collision. Ryan Trevino, a 35-year-old driver heading west in a 2016 blue Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, crossed a solid double yellow line and crashed into Tarter’s vehicle. Witnesses described Trevino as driving recklessly, which ultimately led to the tragic collision.
Unfortunately, Tarter succumbed to his injuries at the scene and could not be transported to a hospital in time. Meanwhile, both Trevino and a passenger in Tarter’s truck suffered major injuries, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti revealed that Trevino had previously been arrested in October 2023 on DUI charges.
