Investigation Launched into Late Actor Lee Sun Gyun’s Drug Use Allegations

Police Launch Formal Investigation into Allegations Involving Late Actor Lee Sun Gyun

The police have recently announced the commencement of a formal investigation into the case of the late actor Lee Sun Gyun. This investigation is being conducted by the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit, following a request for external assistance from the Incheon Police Agency.

The case in question revolves around allegations of drug use against Lee Sun Gyun, which first came to light on October 19 of last year. Initially referred to as “top celebrity L” in reports, issues regarding premature identity disclosure arose during the initial internal investigation.

Legal sources have revealed that the allegations were not originally brought to the attention of the police by a statement from a 29-year-old entertainment establishment manager, identified as A. Instead, they were alerted to the situation by a tip-off from a 28-year-old former actress, referred to as B. B came forward to the police on October 10, presenting hair from A as evidence and implicating Lee Sun Gyun based on recorded phone conversations. As a result, B was later arrested for allegedly extorting 50 million KRW (approximately 37,317 USD) from Lee Sun Gyun.

Despite being summoned for police questioning on three separate occasions, Lee Sun Gyun was tragically found dead in a vehicle on December 27 last year.

In response to this case, several prominent figures in the entertainment industry, including film director Bong Joon Ho, singer Yoon Jong Shin, and actress Yoon Yeo Jeong, have advocated for the implementation of a proposed “Lee Sun Gyun Prevention Law.” This law aims to prevent human rights violations by investigative agencies.

It is important to note that if you or someone you know is at risk of self-harm or suicide, seeking help from crisis intervention and suicide prevention agencies is crucial. These resources are available both in the United States and internationally.

As the investigation progresses, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency will continue to delve into the allegations surrounding Lee Sun Gyun, ensuring fairness and impartiality throughout the process.
