66-Year-Old Mississippi Woman Charged with Murder After Son’s Body Found Hidden in Home
A shocking crime has rocked the community of Gulfport, Mississippi, as a 66-year-old woman is now facing a murder charge after police discovered the body of her 42-year-old son hidden in a wooden box behind a false wall in her home.
The accused, Jerri Roby (also known as Jerri Israel), has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her son, John Allen Gaither. The investigation began on December 22, 2023, when one of Gaither’s out-of-state relatives reported him missing. The last contact anyone had with Gaither was on December 10.
Authorities became suspicious during their investigation when they noticed discrepancies in the statements provided by Roby. As the investigation progressed, Roby became increasingly uncooperative and changed her statements multiple times, according to a news release from the Gulfport Police Department.
Disturbingly, it was revealed that Roby had a previous murder conviction in Florida in 1995. Authorities also discovered that she had attempted to dispose of Gaither’s body in various locations throughout Florida before eventually concealing it in her home.
On January 18, detectives and crime scene technicians executed a search warrant at Roby’s residence. As they entered the home, Roby ingested a handful of pills, requiring her immediate transport to a hospital for medical treatment.
During the search, law enforcement made a gruesome discovery. They found a wooden box hidden behind a false wall, containing the deceased body of John Allen Gaither. Roby had attempted to cover up her crime by writing notes to family members, posing as her son and assuring them that he was alright. Multiple homemade wooden boxes were also found in the house and garage.
After her release from the hospital, Roby was arrested on Saturday and is currently being held without bond at the Harrison County Detention Center. Due to her previous criminal record and the seriousness of the charges against her, she has been deemed a flight risk.
Further details, including information about Roby’s upcoming court appearance and legal representation, were not available at the time of writing.
This tragic incident has left the community shocked and saddened. The authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gaither’s death, ensuring justice is served for the victim and his grieving loved ones.
