30-Year-Old Bhupinder Singh Dies by Suicide at Delhi Metro’s INA Station

In a tragic incident that unfolded at Delhi Metro’s INA station on Saturday evening, a 30-year-old man died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train. The deceased has been identified as Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Satya Niketan in Delhi.

The entire incident was captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the station. The footage showed Singh jumping from platform 2 in front of a Metro train heading towards Samaypur Badli. The shocking incident prompted a police control room call, and a police team immediately rushed to the spot.

According to a senior police official, Singh was identified through a call made to his mobile phone. The body was then shifted to the mortuary at Trauma Centre, and further investigation is underway to determine the motives behind Singh’s decision to take this tragic step.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred at the Delhi Metro. In November 2023, a woman in her 40s died by suicide at the Rajouri Garden metro station, while in October 2023, a 35-year-old man jumped in front of a metro train at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. In September, a teenage girl was severely injured after jumping in front of a metro at the Noida City Centre station. And in August, a 40-year-old man lost his life after jumping on the tracks at the Delhi Metro’s AIIMS metro station.

Statistics reveal a disturbing trend, with at least 25 cases of attempted suicides registered on the Delhi Metro tracks between January 2018 and May 2019. Furthermore, between 2014 and 2018, there were 80 suicide attempts inside Delhi Metro stations.

The Delhi Police have initiated further investigation into this matter under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Section 174. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for increased mental health awareness and support, as well as better security measures at metro stations to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.

The INA station incident has once again highlighted the pressing issue of mental health and the need for proactive steps to address it. It is crucial for society to come together and provide support to those in need, as well as create an environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking help before it’s too late.
