Two members of the banned militant group Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were apprehended by the police in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, along with a significant quantity of explosives. The authorities successfully arrested the duo, who were planning to carry out a blast in the district.
According to Kokrajhar district superintendent of police (SP) Pushpraj Singh, the police received information about the militants’ plan, prompting them to swiftly take action. A specialized team, including a bomb squad, was dispatched to the area, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.
During the search operation, a substantial amount of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and handmade bombs were discovered in the possession of the arrested individuals. Ravindra Barman and Prasanjit Barman, both residents of Koksaguri village, have been identified as the accused. They now face charges under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
The police stated that the militants attempted to flee but were apprehended before they could escape. The arrested individuals will be presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
The incident has raised concerns about the presence of militant outfits in the region and the potential threat they pose to public safety. The Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) has been designated as a banned organization due to its involvement in various acts of violence and terrorism.
Assam police are actively investigating the matter to gather more information about the arrested militants and their network. The authorities are determined to dismantle any militant outfits operating in the region to maintain peace and security.
Incidents like these highlight the importance of a vigilant and proactive police force in preventing potential acts of terrorism. The successful arrest of the KLO cadres and seizure of explosives is a significant achievement for the police, as it has averted a potential disaster in the Kokrajhar district.
The authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of the public. The police have urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and harmony in the region.
