Lydia Brooke : Chelsea Woman Faces DUI, Charges After School Bus Crash

Vermont State Police were called to the scene of a single motor vehicle crash involving a school bus on the evening of February 12. The incident took place on Chelsea Road, near the intersection with Eagle Hollow Road in Corinth.

The driver of the minivan-style school bus was identified as Lydia Brooke, a 25-year-old resident of Chelsea. The bus is owned by Pierson’s Transportation, LLC. Fortunately, Brooke was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was transported to Central Vermont Hospital with minor injuries.

Upon arrival at the hospital, troopers noticed signs of impairment in Brooke, leading to her subsequent arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). This revelation raised concerns as it was discovered that Brooke had been transporting children prior to the accident. However, no children were present in the bus during the incident, which was a relief.

In addition to the DUI charge, Brooke now faces additional charges of negligent operation, reckless endangerment, and cruelty to a child. The severity of the situation is reflected in these charges, highlighting the potential danger that could have occurred.

Following her arrest, Brooke was processed and released with a citation. She is required to appear at the Orange County Superior Court – Criminal Division on March 6 at 8 a.m. to address the charges brought against her.

As investigations continue into the incident, authorities are working diligently to gather all necessary information. The safety and well-being of the community, particularly the children who may have been in Brooke’s care, remain of utmost importance.

Chelsea Road and the surrounding area where the crash occurred have been known for being relatively peaceful and safe. This incident has undoubtedly shaken the community, raising concerns about the responsibility of those entrusted with the transportation of children.

The Vermont State Police will continue to provide updates on the progress of their investigation and any further developments related to this incident.
