Susan Lockwood : “Friday’s Top 5: Feb 16 Updates”

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Happy Friday, everyone! We’ve made it to the top of the mountain, and while we’re getting some snow early this morning, Meteorologist Matt Mackie says we can expect some clearing by the evening.

In some sad news, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has positively identified the human remains found on Lenox Mountain. The remains have been identified as Susan Lockwood, a woman who had gone missing while hiking on Lenox Mountain. The identification was made based on dental records. Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

In more positive news, Albany International Airport has some exciting updates. Starting in May, the airport will be servicing non-stop flights to Raleigh, N.C. with a new airline called Avelo. This addition provides more travel options for passengers and opens up new opportunities for business and tourism between the two cities.

Moving on, let’s talk about the Belmont Stakes. On February 15, tickets went on sale for the Belmont Stakes, which will be held for the first time in Saratoga Springs. The demand for tickets was high, with certain general admission passes quickly selling out. This is an exciting event for horse racing enthusiasts and a chance for Saratoga Springs to showcase its charm and hospitality.

Unfortunately, there have been some troubling incidents in Pittsfield parks. Authorities are currently investigating copper pipe thefts and multiple break-ins at two parks in the area. Park officials discovered the break-ins on February 8. It’s important for the community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent further incidents.

Lastly, if you’ve been in downtown Albany recently, you may have noticed film production trucks lining the streets. New York is becoming a major player in the filming industry, thanks to generous tax breaks. The latest film set in the Capital Region is being shot at the MVP Arena, adding to the excitement and buzz in the area.

That wraps up our five things to know this Friday morning. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend, everyone!
