Maryland State Police Seek Public’s Help in Solving Fatal shooting in Wicomico County

In a tragic turn of events, Maryland State Police are reaching out to the public for assistance in the investigation of a fatal shooting that took place on Friday in Wicomico County. The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. in the 900 block of North Division Street in Salisbury, Maryland.

According to preliminary reports, the victim has been identified as Richard Darlington Smith, a 49-year-old resident of Salisbury. Smith was walking down the street when he was tragically shot multiple times. Emergency medical service personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is spearheading the investigation, with assistance from the Salisbury Police. Investigators are urging residents with external surveillance cameras in the North Division Corridor, including the New Town, Johnson Lake, and Emmerson Avenue neighborhoods, to come forward with any footage that may help in solving the case. The timeframe of interest is between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024.
