The Shocking Incident in Lower Makefield Township

In a disturbing turn of events, a police officer in Lower Makefield Township was faced with a harrowing situation when he witnessed a man brutally attacking a woman on the street. The officer, who had served two tours in Iraq and worked in a high-crime area in Philadelphia, immediately sprang into action to try to stop the violent assault.

As the officer approached the scene, he saw the man, later identified as Weigel, chasing a woman and tackling her to the ground before beginning to stab her. Without hesitation, the officer rushed over to intervene and render aid to the victim. However, Weigel managed to flee the scene, heading towards the area of I-295.

Two other officers quickly joined the pursuit, chasing Weigel as he scaled a fence in an attempt to evade capture. When they caught up to him, they found him stabbing himself in the neck. One of the officers had to physically break through the fence to apprehend Weigel and bring him into custody.

Tragically, despite efforts to save her, the victim, Battista, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Weigel was also taken to a hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted wounds but is expected to survive.

During the investigation, a knife was recovered along the path that Weigel took as he attempted to escape from the police. Weigel has since been arrested and denied bail for the murder.
