Dustan J. Brummett : “Somerville Man Arrested for Break-In Attempt”

In a recent incident that occurred on the evening of February 20, 2024, in the quiet neighborhood of the 10000 block of South 675 East, Gibson County Central Dispatch received a frantic 911 call reporting a break-in at a residence. The suspect was said to have fled the scene in a white van, prompting deputies to quickly respond to the call.

Upon reaching the area, Deputy Quinten Might spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s van. As he followed the vehicle, he witnessed it swerve across the center of the road, narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle. Acting swiftly, Deputy Might pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as 32-year-old Dustan J. Brummett from Somerville.

During the interaction, Deputy Might detected the scent of alcohol on Mr. Brummett, leading to a roadside investigation for DUI. It was soon discovered that Mr. Brummett was indeed the suspect who had attempted to break into the residence on 675 East. Subsequently, he was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail.

Charges were filed against Mr. Brummett, including Burglary, Possession of Methamphetamines, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. Assisting Deputy Might in the investigation were Sgt. John Fischer and Indiana State Trooper Johnathan Lukeman.

It is important to note that all individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The swift actions of law enforcement officers helped ensure the safety and security of the community in this unsettling situation.
