Jeramie Bizzle : “Matteson Man Charged in Fatal I-94 Shooting”

Illinois State Police have recently made an arrest in connection to a deadly shooting that took place on Interstate 94 near Dolton Road last year. The suspect, Calvin D. Woods, a 32-year-old man from Matteson, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The incident occurred on August 28, 2023, around 7:27 p.m., when ISP troopers responded to a report of a multi-unit crash on northbound I-94 near Dolton Road. Upon arrival, they discovered two abandoned vehicles, an Audi A4 and a Toyota Camry, along the concrete median wall near Dolton Road. The driver of the Camry, Travon M. Mackie, a 30-year-old man from Chicago, had sustained life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshot wounds and later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Following a thorough investigation, ISP determined that Woods was connected to the shooting and was a passenger in the Audi at the time of the incident. Subsequently, on Thursday, ISP Agents, in collaboration with the FBI and United States Marshals Service, apprehended Woods without any resistance.

Woods is currently being held at the Cook County Detention Center pending his pre-trial detention hearing scheduled for Sunday. The arrest marks a significant development in the case, bringing some closure to the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful day.

The location of the shooting, Interstate 94 near Dolton Road, is a busy stretch of highway that connects various parts of the state. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance while traveling on our roadways.
