SeaTac, Washington – Abdikarir Gedi Shariif, 31, was the victim of a fatal shooting in Edmonds on January 3, 2024, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. A gunshot wound to the head was found to be the cause of death.

As The SeaTac Blog has previously reported, Shariif was fatally shot during what seems to have been a fortuitous meeting with the suspect. The incident happened on Wednesday night at Edmonds Way (SR 104) and 236th Street SW. The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic male in his teens to early 20s with curly, dark hair, fired multiple shots at a vehicle before making a run for it eastward on 236th Street SW, according to various witnesses. The suspect is still at large and should be treated as armed and dangerous despite a thorough search conducted by numerous police agencies, which included the use of drones and K9 units.

The victim was turning left towards the suspect when the suspect was crossing Edmonds Way, according to the investigators. Shariif was shot dead by the suspect, who did not appear to be involved in an altercation before the shooting.

The Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association has started a GoFundMe campaign to help with Shariif’s funeral and memorial services in response to this tragic event. Held in high regard by the Abubakr Islamic Center of WA, Tukwila, Shariif was a devoted driver well-known for his volunteer work and kindness at the mosque. With $6,427 of its $7,500 goal already raised, the fundraiser demonstrates the community’s support during these difficult times.

The public is being urged by law enforcement to come forward with any information they may have about the suspect. Please do not approach the person if you know anything about the incident or where they may be. Instead, call 911 right away.
