Man Fatally Struck by Two Vehicles on Route 1 in Wrentham, Massachusetts
A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday evening in Wrentham, Massachusetts, as a man was struck and killed by two vehicles on Route 1. The victim has been identified as Patrick Royster, a 42-year-old resident of Taunton, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
The deadly crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the vicinity of 545 Washington St., near the Harold Clark Town Forest and less than a half-mile away from Luciano’s Restaurant. Police Chief Bill McGrath stated that a preliminary investigation suggests Royster was walking on the northbound side of Route 1, specifically in the area of Thurston Street, when the first vehicle struck him. Tragically, Royster was then disabled in the roadway and subsequently hit by a second vehicle.
Both vehicles involved in the incident immediately stopped at the scene, along with other witnesses who provided valuable information to the authorities. Eileen Elliott, who works nearby, recalls seeing someone walking on the side of the highway and being puzzled by the situation. Within minutes, the sound of sirens filled the air, signaling the arrival of emergency responders.
As investigators work diligently to determine the exact sequence of events, it remains unclear whether weather conditions played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are gathering all the necessary information to shed light on this tragic incident.
This dark stretch of Route 1, which is typically a busy road, was closed to northbound traffic between Thurston and Madison Streets as investigators reconstructed the crash. However, the road has since reopened, allowing traffic to flow once again.
The loss of a life in such a shocking turn of events serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers and pedestrians alike to exercise caution. As the investigation continues, authorities hope to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident and provide answers to the grieving family and friends of Patrick Royster.
It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety of our roads, and incidents like this serve as a sobering reminder to remain vigilant and attentive while traveling.
