Three Attempted Carjackings in Chicago’s Gold Coast; Offenders Caught

Carjackings Foiled and Arrests Made in Gold Coast Neighborhood

Chicago police are currently investigating a series of carjacking attempts that occurred within a 20-minute span on Tuesday evening in the Gold Coast neighborhood on the city’s near North Side. While two of the carjacking attempts were unsuccessful, the offenders were caught after successfully stealing a vehicle.

The first incident took place on the 1500 block of N. State Parkway, where a 26-year-old woman was entering her vehicle. Two armed men approached her, demanding her keys and property. The woman was pushed to the ground and kicked, but the men were startled by a passing vehicle and fled on foot. The victim, fortunately, did not require medical treatment.

In the second incident, a 41-year-old man was sitting in his Audi sedan on the 1400 block of N. Astor St. when the men entered his vehicle and demanded his wallet. The victim complied, and the would-be carjackers attempted to drive off. However, they were unsuccessful as they did not know how to operate a manual transmission.

Finally, in the third incident, a 33-year-old man was delivering food and left his 2019 Nissan Sentra running on the 1000 block of N. Lake Shore Dr. The carjackers approached him on foot, pointed a handgun at him, and fled in the Sentra.

Fortunately, the offenders were apprehended in the 7000 block of S. Wood St. in the Englewood neighborhood. They were identified as the perpetrators in all three attempted carjackings, and the stolen Sentra was recovered.

Area Three detectives are currently investigating these incidents to gather more information. It is important for residents in the Gold Coast neighborhood to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Carjackings have become a growing concern in Chicago, with several incidents reported in recent months. Law enforcement agencies are working hard to address this issue and ensure the safety of the community. It is crucial for residents to take precautions such as parking in well-lit areas, locking their vehicles, and being aware of their surroundings.

Overall, the swift actions of the Chicago police led to the arrest of the carjacking offenders and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
