by A former band director from the Westwood Regional School District in Bergen County, New Jersey, found himself in hot water after being arrested for some serious charges. Kurt Zimmermann, a 55-year-old man from Rockaway, was taken into custody on Friday on allegations of aggravated sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges were brought forth by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.
The incident came to light when the Hopatcong Borough Police Department reached out to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on January 3rd. They reported suspicions of inappropriate sexual behavior between Zimmermann and a student in Westwood Borough. An investigation was launched, revealing some disturbing details.
It was uncovered that Zimmermann, who formerly served as the band director at Westwood Regional School District, had engaged in sexual conduct with a student aged between 13 and 17 on multiple occasions. The illicit activities took place at Westwood Regional Middle School in Westwood Borough and Westwood Regional High School in Washington Township.
Following the investigation, Zimmermann was apprehended in Paramus on February 23rd. He is facing three counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Currently, he is being held at the Bergen County Jail until his scheduled appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
Zimmermann’s LinkedIn profile indicates his prior roles, including director of bands at Hopatcong High School and coordinator of student discipline. He had also been employed at Westwood Regional Schools in the past.
