by NIA Files Chargesheet Against ISIS Member in Jharkhand Module Arrest
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a major step in its crackdown on the ISIS terrorist organization by filing a chargesheet against one of the members of the ISIS Jharkhand module. The accused, Faizan Ansari alias Faiz, was arrested last year for his involvement in propagating ISIS propaganda and recruiting individuals.
According to the chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Ranchi, Faizan Ansari played a key role in spreading ISIS propaganda through social media platforms such as Telegram and Instagram. He created and managed multiple ‘ISIS-aligned’ cyber groups to disseminate terrorist materials, including ISIS magazines, with the aim of influencing and recruiting young people to carry out violent attacks in India. The chargesheet also revealed that Ansari had taken an oath of allegiance to the self-styled leader of ISIS.
Faizan Ansari, a resident of Ranchi, was apprehended by the NIA on July 20 last year, while his associate, Omar Bahadur alias Rahul Sen, was arrested in September. The NIA initiated the case against the duo after receiving information from the Union Home Ministry about an alleged ISIS conspiracy to promote terrorist activities that would disrupt the unity, integrity, security, and sovereignty of the country.
The NIA’s chargesheet further alleges that both Faizan Ansari and Omar Bahadur had conspired to carry out unlawful activities that aimed to strike fear and terror among the people, thereby threatening the security of India’s secular ethos, culture, and democratic system of governance. The investigation has also uncovered a larger conspiracy with international linkages and the involvement of foreign-based ISIS handlers.
This case sheds light on a complex network of individuals within India who are committed to propagating the extremist and violent ideology of ISIS. The NIA’s investigation is still ongoing, and they are following the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
