The incident took place on the East Coast Road near Sethubavacharitham when a speeding car collided with a culvert, resulting in the accident.
According to the police, the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the parapet of the culvert near Manora Fort on the East Coast Road. The front of the vehicle sustained significant damage as a result of the accident.
It has been reported that the occupants of the SUV, who were from Indira Nagar in Thoothukudi district, were on their way to the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health at Velankanni for worship. Unfortunately, the accident cut short their journey and resulted in the loss of four lives.
The deceased have been identified as Y. Packiyaraj (62), A. Gnanambal (60), M. Rani (40), and M. Chinnapandi (40). Their bodies have been transferred to the Government Hospital at Pattukottai for postmortem examinations.
Additionally, seven individuals were injured in the accident. They have been identified as P. Mariya Selvaraj (37), M. Fathima Mary (31), M. Santhosh Selvam (7), P. Shanmughathai (53), B. Saraswathi (50), B. Ganapathy (52), and S. Latha (40). These injured individuals have been admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital for necessary treatment.
The Sethubavachathiram Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details about the investigation have not been disclosed at this time.
