Tragic Road Accident in Tenkasi District Claims Six Lives

Six people were killed in a devastating road accident that occurred in Sangilipatty near Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district on January 28, 2024. The victims were traveling in their car from Courtallam to Tenkasi when a cement-laden truck collided with their vehicle at around 3.30 a.m.

According to the police, the truck driver, who was transporting cement, also sustained injuries in the collision. The deceased have been identified as Patturaja alias Karthik, Vel Manoj, Pothiraj, Subramanian, Mukesh alias Manoj, and Muthamizh Selvan. They were all in their late twenties and hailed from Bagavathi Amman Koil Street, Puliangudi, and Palani.

The group had set out on Saturday night for a trip to Courtallam and had spent some time enjoying the waterfalls. They were on their way back to Tenkasi when the tragic accident occurred. The impact of the collision was so severe that all six occupants of the car lost their lives on the spot. The car was badly damaged, making it difficult for the rescue team to retrieve the bodies.

The Fire and Rescue Service personnel were called to the scene to assist in removing the bodies from the vehicle. The bodies were then sent for post-mortem examination. The accident resulted in a temporary blockage of traffic on the stretch for over 30 minutes.

Tenkasi Superintendent of Police, T.P. Suresh Kumar, visited the accident spot and oversaw the rescue operations carried out by his team. Meanwhile, the truck driver, identified as Prakash from Tiruvannamalai district, is currently receiving treatment in a hospital. The local police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

The Sangilipatty near Kadayanallur area is known for its picturesque landscapes and attracts many tourists. This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution while on the roads.
