Chilean Government Requests Interpol Assistance in Kidnapping Case

The Chilean Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, made a concerning announcement on Wednesday regarding the kidnapping of a former Venezuelan soldier in Santiago. The incident occurred at 3:15 a.m. in the municipality of Independencia, located in the northern sector of the Chilean city. The victim, identified as Ronald Leandro Ojeda Moreno, was taken from his apartment by four hooded individuals posing as officers from the Investigative Police (PDI).

Government Response and Security Measures

In response to the kidnapping, the Chilean government has reached out to Interpol for assistance and has also heightened security measures at the border. The investigation into the case has been classified as confidential by both the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Anti-Kidnapping Brigade (BIPE) of the PDI. Monsalve emphasized the importance of protecting the physical integrity of the victim and their family during this sensitive time.

Possible Motives and Theories

Various theories have been put forward regarding the motive behind the kidnapping. One theory, suggested by former Venezuelan security secretary Iván Simonovis, points to the Venezuelan General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM) as a potential orchestrator of the operation. Ojeda is among the 33 soldiers who were expelled from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) on charges of conspiracy, as announced by Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.

Ongoing Investigation and Findings

Authorities discovered a car in the municipality of Renca that may be linked to the crime. Inside the vehicle, a vest believed to belong to the PDI and a bulletproof helmet were found. The investigation is being led by prosecutor Héctor Barros of the Organized Crime and Homicide Team in the Metropolitan Region. Senator Francisco Chahuán has described the case as a sensitive situation, emphasizing the need for a thorough and swift investigation due to the multiple hypotheses surrounding the incident.

Stay Informed

As the investigation unfolds, the government has urged the public to respect the confidentiality of the case. The Carabineros and the PDI have been called upon to increase border control measures.
