Tragic crash Claims Lives of Two Men in Port Allen

Early Saturday morning, a devastating two-vehicle crash occurred in Port Allen, Louisiana, resulting in the tragic loss of two men from Opelousas. The victims, identified as David Rideaux, 35, and Dwight Pelican Sr., 34, lost their lives in the collision that took place on US 190 at S. Winterville Road.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, the fatal incident unfolded just before 5:30 a.m. as a 2018 Volvo concrete truck and a 2012 Buick Lacrosse collided on US 190 East. Sgt. Kate Stegall revealed that the Volvo was making a turn from S. Winterville Road onto US 190 East when the Buick, driven by Rideaux, rear-ended the larger vehicle for reasons still under investigation.

Tragically, neither Rideaux nor Pelican, who was a passenger in the front seat of the Buick, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

As part of the standard procedure following fatal accidents in Louisiana, troopers collected toxicology samples from the scene. These samples will undergo analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to determine if any substances played a role in the tragic crash.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing, as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal crash in Port Allen. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of David Rideaux and Dwight Pelican Sr. as they navigate this difficult time.
