Roberts : Evansville Man Faces Charges After Altercation with Police: News

On a Friday evening around 6:30 p.m., law enforcement received a concerning call about a man named Roberts who was spotted stumbling on the sidewalk of N. Fifth Avenue. When officers approached him, they immediately noticed signs of intoxication such as slurred speech and unsteady movements. Despite their orders to stop, Roberts defiantly continued walking and even went as far as swinging a fist at the officers when they tried to intervene, resulting in his forced restraint on the ground.

During the altercation, Roberts reportedly spat on one of the officers and made several attempts to kick them. He was eventually taken to the hospital, where he allegedly made chilling threats against the officers, claiming that they would “die tonight” and that he would harm them. Even within the hospital setting, Roberts continued to resist arrest by trying to kick the officers.

After being released from the hospital, Roberts was escorted to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he allegedly threatened to decapitate one of the officers. He is now facing a slew of charges including Intimidation, Battery against a Public Safety Official, Public Intoxication, and Resisting Law Enforcement. Roberts is currently being held without bond.

The incident took place in a busy area of N. Fifth Avenue, where pedestrians and locals were shocked by the disruptive behavior displayed by Roberts. The situation escalated quickly, leaving law enforcement with no choice but to take action to ensure the safety of themselves and others in the vicinity. Roberts’ behavior has caused concern among the community, with many questioning the motives behind his aggressive actions.
