A 19-year-old youth, identified as Sanjay Pal, was caught red-handed attempting to write the exam in place of another student.

Sanjay Pal had already taken exams in four subjects, but it was during the fifth paper on February 22 that he was apprehended and handed over to the police. District Education Officer Ajay Katiyar revealed that the substitution was discovered at the exam centre CBS Convent School in Gwalior. Upon inspection, officials noticed that the photo of the student did not match the one on the original candidate’s record.
**The Consequences**
Following the discovery, the centre head reported the incident to the police, leading to Sanjay Pal being taken into custody. A departmental investigation is currently underway, with actions to be taken against all parties involved in the malpractice. DEO Katiyar explained that the delayed identification was due to the accused’s signature matching that on the admit card, making it challenging for examiners to notice the switch earlier.

In response to the incident, DEO Katiyar issued a letter to all exam centre heads in the district and informed education and district administration officers about the matter. The MP board examinations for Class 10 and 12 commenced on February 5, 2024, and are scheduled to conclude on March 5, 2024.
