Tragic Deaths of Six People in Delhi Due to Toxic Fumes

Tragic Incident in Delhi: Six People Dead from Toxic Fumes

In a shocking turn of events, six people, including four members of a family, have tragically lost their lives in two separate incidents in the national capital of India. The victims allegedly inhaled toxic fumes emanating from coal braziers, highlighting the dangerous consequences of the severe cold conditions gripping Delhi.

On Sunday morning, the minimum temperature plummeted to 3.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded this winter. Two children were among the four individuals who perished in the Alipur area of outer north Delhi. The victims have been identified as Rakesh (40), a water tanker driver, his wife Lalita (38), and their two young sons Piyush (8) and Sunny (7). A PCR call was received at Alipur police station, reporting an unconscious person in Khera Kalan village. Upon arrival, the police discovered the room locked from the inside. Breaking the glass window, they found the four victims unconscious and rushed them to the hospital, where they were declared dead. The presence of a coal brazier (angithi) in the room led the authorities to suspect suffocation as the cause of death. The incident is now under investigation.

In a similar tragedy, two men from Nepal, identified as Ram Bahadur (57) and Abhishek (22), were found dead in their room in the Inderpuri area of west Delhi. It is believed that they also succumbed to toxic fumes from a coal brazier. Bahadur worked as a driver, while Abhishek was a domestic help. Concerned neighbors alerted the police when the men failed to open their rented house door. Upon entering the room, the authorities discovered the two victims unconscious. Despite immediate transportation to a nearby hospital, doctors pronounced them dead. An angithi with burnt residue was found in the room, and no visible injuries were observed on the bodies. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

These tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions and the need for caution when using heating appliances. As Delhi continues to battle the cold, it is crucial for residents to prioritize safety measures and ensure proper ventilation in enclosed spaces. Authorities are urging the public to exercise vigilance and take necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
