by Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Tragedy struck on the Madurai-Dhanuskodi National Highway in Tamil Nadu, as two vans collided head-on, resulting in the death of two women from Madhya Pradesh. The victims have been identified as Manubai, 42, from Ujjain district, and Nathanbai, 70, from Dhar district. The incident occurred on Saturday, leaving the entire community in shock.
Upon learning about the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav immediately dispatched a deputy collector and a DSP to Madurai to provide assistance and support to the injured passengers from Madhya Pradesh. The collectors of both districts have also been instructed to reach out to the affected individuals and extend all possible aid.
According to the police, the collision took place when a van carrying 25 people from Madhya Pradesh, en route to Rameswaram from Dhanushkodi, collided with another van heading towards Dhanushkodi at Thavukadu. The collision was a result of the first van overtaking a bus that had suddenly stopped on the road.
The impact of the collision left about 25 passengers in both vehicles with multiple injuries. Prompt action by the Fire and Rescue Services personnel ensured the swift rescue of all the occupants, who were then rushed to the government hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Manubai and Nathanbai succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.
Currently, the hospital is providing medical care to 12 men and 10 women, who are in stable condition. The Dhanushkodi police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The Madurai-Dhanuskodi National Highway has witnessed several accidents in the past due to its challenging terrain and heavy traffic flow. Authorities have been striving to improve road safety measures and prevent such incidents, but the recent collision serves as a grim reminder of the need for continued efforts in this regard.
