Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa paid tribute to Marburger for his selfless and heroic actions, stating that he will forever be remembered for his bravery. As a mark of respect, flags across the state will be flown at half-mast until the day of Marburger’s funeral.
The suspect behind the shooting, identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, was later found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities discovered that he was in possession of a shotgun, a handgun, and a rudimentary explosive device.
This shocking incident took place less than two weeks before the Republican presidential caucuses in Iowa. President Joe Biden was briefed on the situation, and the White House reached out to Governor Reynolds’ office to offer support and assistance.
