It was at this point that a plainclothes sub-inspector, who had been following the lorry, allegedly fired his gun, resulting in Kumarathilaka’s death.
Acting IGP Deshbandu Tennakoon has appointed a team from the Police Special Investigation Unit to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
