Vaibhav Mane : “600 kg Mephedrone Seized in Pune Raids”

In a major drug bust, the Pune city police Crime Branch has made a significant seizure of around 600 kg of Mephedrone, valued at a staggering Rs 1,100 crore. The operation involved multiple connected raids at a chemical manufacturing factory in Kurkumbh in Daund taluka, as well as two godowns in Vishrantwadi.

The crackdown follows a previous action on Monday, where three individuals, including a salt trader, were apprehended, and Mephedrone worth Rs 3.5 crore was confiscated from them. Subsequently, two godowns in Vishrantwadi were raided, resulting in the recovery of 55 kg of Mephedrone. Further information led the police to a chemical factory in Kurkumbh, where an additional 550 kg of the illicit substance was seized.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar of the Pune police stated, “Some suspects linked to these facilities have been detained, and a thorough investigation is ongoing. Our teams are strategically positioned across the county for further operations.”

Earlier on Monday, officers from the Crime Branch’s Unit 1 acted on specific intelligence, intercepting a vehicle in the Somwar Peth area. The search led to the seizure of 500 gm of Mephedrone from criminal Vaibhav Mane alias Pintya and driver Ajay Karosia. Further interrogation revealed their supplier as Haidar Shaikh of Vishrantwadi, where an additional 500 gm and 750 gm of Mephedrone were seized from him and his godown, respectively.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized the department’s commitment to a ‘drugs-free Pune’ campaign, urging citizens to report any drug-related activities through a dedicated WhatsApp number. The informant’s identity will remain confidential to encourage community participation in combating drug trafficking.
