**Tragic Sandhole Incident in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea**

In a heartbreaking turn of events, two children were involved in a deadly sandhole collapse in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The incident, which occurred near the 4200 block of El Mar Drive, left 5-year-old Sloan Mattingly dead and her 9-year-old brother Maddox hospitalized.

**Identifying the Victims**

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office identified the siblings as the victims of the tragic incident. The Mattingly children, who were on vacation from Indiana, were digging a hole on the beach when they became trapped under the sand. The parents of the children were also present at the scene.

**Rescue Efforts and Investigation**

Emergency personnel responded to a call reporting the trapped children around 3:16 p.m. on Tuesday. Despite their efforts to rescue Sloan and Maddox, Sloan was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center. Maddox, on the other hand, was hospitalized and is in stable condition.

**Homicide Unit Investigation**

Following the incident, the BSO’s Homicide unit was called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that the children were playing on the beach when the sandhole collapsed, trapping them underneath.

The circumstances surrounding the sandhole collapse are still under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause of the tragic incident. The community of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is mourning the loss of young Sloan Mattingly and hoping for the full recovery of her brother Maddox.
