In a recent non-deadly shooting incident, the Monterey County District Attorney has released the names of the two deputies involved. Sergeant Jon Luther and Deputy Michael Davis were the officers responsible for responding to the call. With 26 years of experience, Luther has been with the sheriff’s office for a considerable amount of time, while Davis has served the organization for 21 years.

The man shot by the deputies has been identified as Coleman Smith, 33, according to jail records. Smith was taken into custody for charges including burglary, attempting to seize a deputy’s gun, and causing harm to an elderly person.

The incident began when deputies received a call around 8:30 a.m. in connection to a criminal investigation at a residence on Strawberry Canyon Road. Upon their arrival, the man barricaded himself inside his home, leading to a period of negotiation.
